KARACHI, Pakistan – The world’s first Qawwali Academy, the Afzal Sabri Sufi Music Academy, was officially inaugurated on January 24th by the Governor of Sindh, Muhammad Kamran Khan Tessori.

The academy, named after the famous Qawwal Afzal Sabri, aims to promote the original music of Pakistan, Qawwali, globally and preserve the rich cultural heritage of the country.

During the inauguration ceremony, Governor Tesori highlighted the importance of creating institutions for the youth and said, “The original music of Pakistan is Qawwali and we will make our culture famous in the whole world through Qawwali.

It is very important to create institutions for the youth and this academy is now for the youth.” He further added that Qawwali teaches peace and love and that it is a way to love the Prophet Muhammad PBUH.

The ceremony was also attended by Fasyal Aziz Khan, a well-known journalist and president of Bol Media Group, who said, “Sindh is the land of Sufis and elders, we are fortunate and our children and youth should learn Qawwali. We have to bring the world closer to our music.”

The head of the academy, renowned Qawal Afzal Sabri, thanked the Governor of Sindh for his support and said, “After seventy-five years, the Academy of Qawwali has started working and the credit goes to the Governor of Sindh who understood our problem and found a solution.” He further added that Qawwali classes have been started and youth are being trained under various courses.

Afzal Sabri also requested the Governor of Sindh to provide financial support to the academy and urged the Sindh government to set grants on an annual basis to ensure the sustainability and growth of the academy.

The Afzal Sabri Sufi Music Academy is a major milestone in the preservation and promotion of Pakistan’s cultural heritage and is expected to play a significant role in promoting Qawwali globally. It is also an important step in providing opportunities for the youth to learn and appreciate the rich cultural heritage of the country.
