Faf du Plessis scored first century in SA20 T20 league

  • SA20 T20 league’s first-ever hundred was hit by Faf du Plessis.
  • Joburg Super Kings defeated Durban Super Giants by eight wickets.
  • Heinrich Klaasen led the batting assault with a scorching 65 from 48 balls.

Faf du Plessis, captain of the Joburg Super Kings, scored the first century in the SA20 T20 competition on Tuesday, enabling his club to defeat the Durban Super Giants by eight wickets.

The former South African captain led his team to victory after Super Giants set a modest 179-run target with an incredible unbroken 113 from 58.

In his first at-bat, Du Plessis and Reeza Hendrick put together an outstanding opening stand of 157 that gave his team the upper hand during the run chase. At the ripe old age of 38, captain Faf was the major aggressor as he whacked eight fours and as many sixes to demonstrate his batting skills while Hendrick struck a cautious 45 off 46.

Reece Topley’s bowling caused Hendrick to throw his wicket in the 17th over, and Wiaan Mulder quickly got rid of Donovan Ferreira to prevent Super Kings from winning by ten wickets.

Earlier, after being put into bat, Heinrich Klaasen led the batting assault with a scorching 65 from 48 balls to enable his Super Giant post a respectable total of 178/6.

Although Maheesh Theekshana and Gerald Coetzee occasionally jolted Super Giants, a late cameo by West Indies’ Jason Holder, who scored 28 from 12 deliveries, and valuable contributions from Kyle Mayers (28 off 15) and Matthew Breetzke (28 off 24) helped calmed Super Giants.

In his four overs, Theekshana claimed three wickets, including two consecutive dismissals of Mayer and Mulder in the fifth over.
