‘PML-N to play its role for agreement on Karachi LB polls results’

  • JI took more than expected seats from Karachi, Muhammad Shah said
  • JI Karachi chief said votes’ recounting should be held before ECP
  • Hafiz Naeem said everyone knew how the LB polls were held.

KARACHI: Pakistan Muslim League-N (PML-N) Sindh President Syed Shah Muhammad Shah on Sunday said his party would play its role for agreement between political parties on results of local bodies elections in Karachi, Bol News reported.

“If someone wants to learn management of an organization then they should learn it from the Jamaat e Islami. The JI took more than expected seats from Karachi in the LB polls. They gave one of the best results in Karachi,” Shah Muhammad Shah said talking to media at Idara Noor e Haq in Karachi. He was flanked by JI Karachi Amir Hafiz Naeem ur Rehman and naib amir and other local leaders.

To a query, the PML-N Sindh president said he could not go to the Pakistan Tehreek e Insaf (PTI). Upon which, Hafiz Naeem said they would take him to the PTI.

The JI Karachi chief said the recounting of votes should not be held before the returning officers but before the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP). He said the one whose mandate was clear should be accepted. He said they wanted to work with everyone for progress of the megalopolis.

“We want people like Shah Muhammad Shah to play their roles before the final results are announced. The manner in which an attempt was made to uproot Karachi is not correct. It will benefit all of us, if we proceed with consensus. The PML-N has also taken seats in the local government elections. Shah is aware of situation of Karachi. Despite all the differences, Karachi can no longer tolerate destruction,” he said.

Pointing towards rigging, Hafiz Naeem said everyone knew how the LB polls were held. He said it was the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) who was talking about giving the deputy mayor. The PPP should accept that our seats are in greater number, he said adding that the ball was in ECP’s court and the mayor would come from the JI.

On January 18, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan had strongly criticized the final result of the Local Government (LG) elections.

In a series of tweets, the former prime minister had said the “manipulated” elections will only cause more agitation, polarization and anarchy.

While lashing out at the ruling party in Sindh, he had said the PPP had no commitment to fair and free elections, and instead uses force, blackmail, police harassment, and money to get votes.
