- Charles III will reportedly name Prince Edward the Duke of Edinburgh.
- Previously, it was rumoured that Princess Charlotte may receive the title.
- The Queen had promised him the title before she died.
Prince Edward’s youngest brother, King Charles III, who apparently meant to bypass him by appointing Princess Charlotte as the Duke of Edinburgh, has now decided to mend the wound by changing his mind about the choice.
Following a “change of heart,” the 74-year-old king will reportedly name Prince Edward the Duke of Edinburgh. Previously, it was rumoured that Princess Charlotte may receive the title.
Charlotte, the middle child of Prince William and Kate Middleton, is seven years old. Charlotte will eventually take on this role.
“It was a slap in the face, particularly when Edward has been such a help to Charles over the Andrew farrago, a source told the Daily Mail. Also because the Queen had promised him the title before she died and it was always believed by Edward and Sophie that, in time, the title would then be passed down to their son, Viscount Severn.
“Now it does look like the tide is turning. Clearly the King has had time to reflect on the late Queen’s wishes.”
It should be noted that the Duke of Edinburgh’s title has historically been crucial to preserving the union with Scotland, which is currently facing growing difficulties. It’s also likely that Charles will ask Edward to return the title to the Crown rather than to his heirs.
