Despite being unable to match Chelsea’s massive transfer market expenditures, Jurgen Klopp says Liverpool is still in excellent hands under the ownership of Fenway Sports Group.

The Premier League’s top four teams, Liverpool and Chelsea, will square off at Anfield on Saturday. Both teams are 10 points behind those teams.

With the additions of Mykhailo Mudryk, Benoit Badiashile, and Joao Felix on loans this month, Chelsea has responded by increasing its spending in the first season under new ownership to above £400 million ($494 million).

“Interesting. I cannot explain it, I have no idea. But if the numbers are true then it’s impressive,” said Klopp of Chelsea’s spending.

FSG, on the other hand, has been charged by Liverpool supporters for failing to provide Klopp with the means to revamp a team that came dangerously close to a historic quadruple last season.

The club’s American owners have started the process of either selling it or seeking funding for a minority position.

Currently, Liverpool are a shell of their former selves, and Klopp referred to last weekend’s 3-0 loss at Brighton as his worst managerial performance.

“We are here in a good position. I know that sounds strange because we didn’t play our best football but in general we are in good hands,” added Klopp ahead of his 1,000th game as a manager.

“So we don’t get crazy or whatever. We really know about the responsibility we have and we really try absolutely everything to try to bring us back on track and not worry too much.”

Injury problems have plagued Liverpool all season, and for Chelsea’s visit, Virgil van Dijk, Diogo Jota, and Luis Diaz are among those who remain out.

In Graham Potter’s first few months in charge, the Blues have seen even worse injury issues, and Klopp thinks it may be the cause of both teams’ subpar seasons thus far.

“I think it’s the only team with a similar injury list like ours. It’s tough,” added Klopp in comparing Liverpool and Chelsea’s absentees to Premier League leaders Arsenal.

“Arsenal deserve to be where they are at the moment. Play outstanding football. But cut out five players or three offensive players and nobody would think Arsenal where are you?

“Injuries are a massive problem, Chelsea has them as much as we have. It’s not the only problem but it’s a big problem so that’s why I’m not surprised that they do not do well.”

Darwin Nunez is expected to return after missing the previous two games, giving Klopp at least one important player back in the lineup.
