Diana Baig ruled out of women’s T20 World Cup due to injury

  • Diana ruled out of next women’s T20 World Cup and T20I series against Australia.
  • Baig fractured her wrist in third one-day international against Aussies.
  • Replacement for the Pakistan pacer by batter Sadaf Shams.

Due to an injury, Pakistani pacer Diana Baig will not play in the next women’s T20 World Cup or the T20I series against Australia.

Diana will be replaced in the Pakistani team for the series by batter Sadaf Shams.

“Right-arm fast bowler Diana Baig has been ruled out of Australia T20Is and ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2023 due to fracture in her index finger of the right hand,” an official statement from Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) stated.

The board stated that Diana fractured her wrist in the third one-day international against Australia today when she attempted to take a return catch on the final ball of the seventh over of Australia’s innings. The pacer was brought to the nearby hospital where X-rays confirmed the fracture.

Diana has been replaced by right-handed batter Shamas, who is a member of the reserves for the Australia T20I series and the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup.

“Diana has been advised four weeks’ rest by the PCB Medical panel,” the statement said.

Australia defeated Pakistan handily earlier on Saturday after taking the third and final ODI of the series in Sydney by 101 runs.

Pakistan was limited to 235-7 in their allotted 50 overs while attempting to chase a lofty goal of 337 runs.

A three-match T20I series between the two teams will now begin on January 24.
