- New King Charles III wants to modernize the Coronation.
- He will forgo silk stockings and arrive in a military uniform instead.
- Senior advisors advised he should not wear them, as they ‘look too dated’.
With his impending coronation, King Charles III will be the center of attention, and the new king appears to want to modernize the traditional event.
According to reports, the 74-year-old monarch will forgo silk stockings because they “look too dated” and instead don the uniform of the Admiral of the Fleet.
King Charles wants his coronation to showcase a “modern 21st-century monarchy.”
On the historic occasion, King Charles was believed to be “happy” to wear the same attire as his grandpa, but senior advisors later stated that “he should not wear them”.
“Though some of the more long-winded elements of the Coronation will be moved aside or modernized, the King was happy to wear the breeches and stockings,” the insider shared.
“But in discussion with senior aides they are saying he should not wear them, so will arrive in a military uniform instead.
“It is largely to do with modernizing the Coronation and stripping away the stuffiness,” the source added. “They think having a 74-year-old King arriving in stockings and breeches in 2023 looks too dated. They are probably right.”
