LHC restrains security agencies from arresting Shahbaz Gill

  • “Copy of the FIR should be submitted to court.”
  • Court directed to immediately implement its decision.
  • Lawyer claimed government wanted to arrest Gill

LAHORE: The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Thursday stopped the law enforcers from arresting Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTi) leader Shahbaz Gill in a new case.

The court ordered the law officer of the federal government to present the record of the case registered against Shahbaz Gill in the next hearing.

“If there is a case, the copy of the FIR should be submitted to the court,” it directed. Justice Tariq Saleem Sheikh conducted the hearing.

Gill appeared before the court on a wheel chair from a private hospital.

Shahbaz Gill’s lawyer Ramzan Chaudhry extended arguments.

A deputy attorney general told the court that the director general Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) and senior superintendent police Islamabad had been contacted telephonically and DG said that the FIA was not taking any action against Gill, whereas SSP sought time to check registration of any case against the petitioner.

However, the deputy attorney general opposed to the filing of petition in the LHC, saying the same should have been filed in the Islamabad High Court.

The court directed the deputy attorney general to immediately implement the court decision.

Gill’s counsel argued that as per his client’s information, a case had been registered against Shahbaz Gill in an unknown police station and its details were not being provided to Gill in order to prevent him from availing legal remedy. He claimed the government wanted to arrest Gill at any cost.

The court approved the protective bail of Shahbaz Gill and directed him to submit a surety bond of Rs.50,000. The court adjourned the hearing till January 24.
