- England dominated Rwanda in their decisive victory over the African team.
- The visitors were bowled out for just 184 runs.
- Ireland scored 156/5 in the allocated overs.
IE vs IDN: Ireland fought early nerves to defeat Indonesia and advance to the Super Six stage of the ICC U19 Women’s T20 World Cup, while England’s clinical performance against Rwanda bodes well for the rest of their campaign.
With the bat, Indonesia alternated between being inconsistent and sharp, giving up 11 extra runs while also scoring three times during powerplay innings. Then, Georgina Dempsey (50 from 38) and Zara Craig (52* from 45) used aggressive batting and deliberate running to add 93 runs for the fourth wicket, Ireland’s biggest partnership of the match.
Ireland scored 156/5 in the allocated overs, with bowlers Ketut Dewi (2/23) and Ni Ariani (3/30) taking top honours.
During the powerplay overs of the second innings, all-rounder Dempsey bowled two maidens and took a wicket in a stellar opening effort.
Dewi (34* from 40) and Thersiana Penu Weo (11 from 21), two Indonesian hitters, took advantage of some errant Ireland bowling to put together a 23-run partnership after their team had been reduced to 19/3 after the first five overs.
After Penu Weo was out to Craig (2/4), Indonesia appeared to have decided to bat out their allotted number of overs rather than try for an unlikely victory.
In their decisive victory over Rwanda, England displayed total dominance, with several of their players performing well in advance of the Super Six.
England’s attacking stroke play early on placed the inexperienced Rwandan team under strain. No Rwanda bowler escaped punishment as captain Grace Scrivens (52 from 43) and Liberty Heap (64 from 35) added 124 runs in just 12.3 overs. The pair blasted 17 fours and two sixes during their stand.
Sylvia Usabyimana (3/39) destroyed the defense by eliminating Liberty, and a few more deliveries later, she eliminated Scrivens as well. After that, the African team was able to hold England to under 200 points by consistently breaking through.
Rwanda lost wickets frequently while trying to reach the 184-run total because England was so persistent.
The only batter to reach double digits when Rwanda was shot out for 45 was Henriette Ishimwe (12 from 11).
Running through the opposition was not tough for Alexa Stonehouse (2/9), Ryana Macdonald-Gay (2/1), Davina Parrin (2/5) and Hannah Baker (2/9).
