Karachi elections: Two seats of JI increase, one of PPP cuts

  • PPP is leading elections in Karachi with 92 seats
  • JI is first runner-up with 88 seats
  • JI candidate won on a seat after recounting

KARACHI: As per the new figures announced by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), two seats of Jamaat e Islami (JI) have increased and one seat of Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) has reduced in the Karachi local government elections.

In the fresh statement, the ECP said the PPP was leading the elections in Karachi division with 92 seats, while JI was first runner-up with 88 seats and Pakistan Tehreek e Insaf (PTI) was second runner-up with 40 seats.

The JI candidate won on a seat after recounting, while result of a seat was stopped and then announced very late.

The election commission said seven candidates of PML-N, three candidates of JUI, and two candidates of Tehreek-e-Labaik (TLP) were successful on the seat of Chairman/Vice Chairman.

On Januaray 16 night, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) had finally received the consolidated results of all union councils in Karachi after a long delay.

According to the final results earlier, the PPP had won 93 seats of Union Council Chairman/Vice Chairman in the polls, making it the largest party in municipal elections.

Jamaat-e-Islami had won the polls on 86 seats, while 40 candidates of the PTI emerged victorious on 40 seats in the polls.
