LAHORE: Former bureaucrat and civil servant Nasir Mahmood Khosa has reportedly excused himself from the post of caretaker Chief Minister of Punjab.
According to reports, the PML-N contacted Khosa who recused himself from the post in the interim setup. He thanked those who reposed trust in him.
Nasir Mahmood Khosa served as Balochistan’s chief secretary for four years and as Punjab’s chief secretary during Shehbaz Sharif’s tenure for three years.
He also served briefly as the principal secretary to then-prime minister Nawaz Sharif in 2013. Nasir is the brother of former chief justice Asif Saeed Khosa and ex-director general of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) Tariq Saeed Khosa.
In 2018 as well, the PTI had nominated Nasir for caretaker Punjab CM but his nomination was later retracted. Khosa opted out and excusing himself from assuming the responsibilities of caretaker chief minister.
The PML-N has started consultation with Punjab Chief Minister Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi for the appointment of the interim government in the province.
Leader of Opposition Hamza Shehbaz has appointed Malik Ahmad Khan as his representative to hold consultation with Elahi as he is currently abroad.
Malik Ahmad called Pervaiz Elahi and discussed the appointment of the interim setup. Elahi said they have proposed names that would be acceptable for the PML-N.
Punjab Chief Minister Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi has written to Governor Punjab Baligh-ur-Rehman for the formation of caretaker government in the province.
Pervaiz Elahi sent a letter to Governor Punjab and proposed the names of three potential candidates for the post of caretaker chief minister.
The chief minister has recommended the names of Saradar Ahmad Nawaz Sukhera, Naseer Ahmed Khan, and Nasir Mehmood Khosa.
