LAHORE: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) will today consider various names for the caretaker chief minister (CM) of Punjab after the dissolution of the Punjab Assembly.

The party sources said that PML-N will consider the names of retired Justice Khalilur Rehman Ramde, former bureaucrat Tariq Masood Khosa and Justice Jawad S. Khawaja.

Meanwhile, the senior leadership has sought more names for the slot.

Pertinently, the governor of Punjab has written a letter to Acting Chief Minister Chaudhry Parvez Elahi and Leader of Opposition in the Punjab Assembly Hamza Shehbaz for the appointment of Caretaker Chief Minister while Hamza Shehbaz is currently living abroad.

“The Provincial Assembly of Punjab and the Cabinet stands dissolved under Article 112(1) of the Constitution of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan w.e.f. 14th January 2023 at 2210 hours,” said the notification.

It said the caretaker chief minister shall be appointed by the government in consultation with the outgoing Chief Minister and Leader of the Opposition in the outgoing provincial assembly.

The governor said the chief minister and opposition leader should meet him or arrange a meeting for the three of them, saying that he will remain available to discharge his constitutional duties.
