Prince Harry’s memoir, provides a raw and honest look into the life of the Duke of Sussex, touching on emotional anecdotes and never-before-heard royal family stories.
We look at Harry’s most personal admissions and heartwarming stories, including his thoughts on the day of Prince William’s wedding to Kate and his proof that Princess Diana had truly died.
We learn what it was like at Meghan Markle’s emotional birth to Lilibet and an uplifting secret at the late Queen’s Golden Jubilee concert as Harry delves into the most monumental moments of the last 38 years.
In the early pages of the book, as he recounts his mother Princess Diana’s death, Harry recalls his aunt Sarah McCorquodale giving him and William two tiny blue boxes.
And he explains how they both held a lock of his mother’s hair, which his aunt, Diana’s sister, had clipped from her head after she died in a Paris hospital.
Harry writes, heartbreakingly: “So there you have it. Proof. She’s truly gone “and later explains how he keeps the box on his bedside table at all times.
Following his mother’s death, Harry discusses how difficult it was for his father, then Prince Charles, to be a single parent.
However, he admits that his father made an effort and recalls how the two had a sweet bedtime ritual before Harry went to sleep.
He explains how his dad would tickle his face until he feel asleep and how he has the “fondest memories of his hands on my cheeks”.
Harry also recalls Charles leaving letters on his pillow telling him how proud he was of him.
Harry describes watching his grandmother Queen Elizabeth enjoy her Golden Jubilee concert in 2002 and imagining how it would feel to hug her.
“I wanted to hug my Granny more than ever before,” he says when he realises the Queen is wearing earplugs and pretending to dance to the music.
He compares the incident to Diana’s famous attempt to embrace the Queen in a hug, which “ended very awkwardly” because it violated royal protocol.
