PML-N decides against obstructing dissolution of Punjab Assembly

LAHORE: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has decided not to obstruct the dissolution of Punjab Assembly and contest the next elections, BOL News reported.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, who is also PML-N President, held a meeting with party leaders and discussed the political situation emerging after the decision to dissolve the provincial assembly.

Governor Punjab Muhammad Baligh-ur-Rehman and Federal Minister Khawaja Saad Rafique were also present in the consultative meeting. The Punjab governor has already a summary from the chief minister regarding the dissolution of the assembly.

Sources revealed the senior PML-N leaders decided not to obstruct the dissolution of the assembly. It was decided the contest the next elections with full preparation.

During the meeting, it was proposed that the election commission should hold the provincial assembly elections as per the time given in the constitution, party sources revealed.

The meeting was told that Nawaz Sharif and Maryam Nawaz will return after the formation of the caretaker setup in the province.

PML-N senior leaders have instructed to prepare a reception on their return to Pakistan.  Sources revealed Nawaz Sharif will give the final approval of the names for the caretaker government.

It was also decided to expel dissident members within the party, party sources revealed, adding that  the distribution of tickets for the polls will be done after formal interviews. Shahbaz Sharif and Nawaz Sharif will be sent a report on the party’s position within a few days.

After returning home, Maryam Nawaz and Hamza Shehbaz will lead the election campaign, party sources said. Maryam Nawaz will hold rallies in South Punjab while Hamza Shehbaz will hold rallies in Upper Punjab.
