• LHC instructed police to recover brother and nephew of the suspect

LAHORE: The Lahore High Court on Friday directed the police to recover and produce a brother and nephew of the suspect involved in the Wazirabad attack on PTI Chairman Imran Khan.

Sana Shahzadi, the wife of suspect Muhammad Naveed, filed a habeas corpus petition seeking recovery of Muhammad Shafique and Ali Raza, the brother and the nephew of the suspect, from the alleged illegal detention of Gujranwala police.

The petitioner’s counsel argued before the court that the police picked up the detainees from their homes on Nov 20, 2022 but had not produced them before a court of law.

He said the petitioner and the notables of the areas frequently visited the offices of the inspector general of police of Punjab and the regional police officer of Gujranwala for the release of the alleged detainees but to no avail.

The counsel contended that the petitioner had serious apprehensions about the life and wellbeing of the both detainees.

He asked the court to get the alleged detainees recovered from the custody of the police and set them at liberty.

Justice Aalia Neelum directed the RPO of Gujranwala to produce the alleged detainees before the court on Jan 16.
