King Charles III and other royals appeared to be shunning Prince Harry as they made their first appearances in front of the public on Thursday following the publication of the Duke’s candid memoir, Spare.
When he came for a visit to the Aboyne Community Shed in a community in Scotland to meet representatives involved with local support groups, Britain’s new monarch, 74, was in good spirits as he talked with well-wishers but made no direct comment regarding the current controversy.
The Duke of Sussex’s low-key trip, the monarch’s first official engagement of the year, contrasted sharply with the Duke’s Spare, a book that was published a month after a six-part Netflix documentary series on him and Meghan.
William and his wife Kate were beaming as they visited a hospital in northern England on the same day that they were targeted by Harry in his book.
Despite the barrage of headlines that have followed the release of his youngest son’s memoir, they were all seen grinning as they interacted with people at two different venues.
According to its publisher, Transworld Penguin Random House, Spare is already the fastest-selling non-fiction book of all time. The book is brutally critical of the royal family, alleging a fight between William and Harry and asserting Camilla had a “agenda” to change the public perception of her as the “other woman” in his father’s marriage.
Harry Markle, the husband of Meghan Markle and proponent of the Queen’s maxim “never complain, never explain,” made an appearance divulging highly sensitive details about his family. According to legends concerning Charles, he once carried a “pitiful teddy bear” with “broken arms and dangly threads.”
