Bruce Murray, who was a key player in New Zealand’s historic Test victory in Pakistan, passed away at the age of 82.

In 13 Test matches, Murray, a right-handed opening batter, scored 598 runs at an average of 23.92, including five fifty-sixes, after making his debut in February 1968.

In a low-scoring game, his highest score of 90 came in Lahore in 1969, when he helped New Zealand take a decisive first-innings lead of 127. New Zealand won the Test match by five wickets and the three-match series 1-0. It was New Zealand’s first Test-series victory, at home or away.

Murray appeared in 102 first-class matches, the majority of which he played for Wellington, and scored 6257 runs at 35.55, including six hundreds.

New Zealand cricket has been influenced by his family ever since. His daughter Jo Murray and son-in-law Robbie Kerr both played for Wellington, and his granddaughters Amelia Kerr and Jess Kerr are both current New Zealand internationals.
