KARACHI: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) announced to hold the local government (LG) polls in Karachi and Hyderabad on January 15 – as per schedule.
A three-member commission under the chairmanship of the Chief Election Commissioner announced the reserved decision while rejecting MQM’s plea to postpone the polls.
The electoral body has said that the polls in Karachi and Hyderabad will be held on January 15 on previous voter lists and rejected MQM’s objections on the lists.
Notably, the Election Commission had reserved its decision on January 6 after the arguments were completed.
The Election Commission reserved the verdict on the reference filed by the Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) about dual electoral lists.
The CEC, during the hearing on MQM’s request, said that local elections in Karachi could not be postponed anymore.
On the other hand, the commission has finalized all the arrangements to hold the local government (LG) polls in Karachi and Hyderabad on January 15.
