- Sharjeel Khan fails to score in his first appearance in the BPL.
- He scored seven runs off 11 balls.
- The left-handed batsman will only appear in two more BPL matches.
Sharjeel Khan, a left-handed opener, failed to score a significant run in his first Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) match of the season.
Sharjeel departed for Bangladesh to play in the league shortly after failing to make Pakistan’s ODI team for the home New Zealand series due to a lack of approval from the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).
Sharjeel scored seven runs off 11 balls, including a boundary, while playing for Khulna Tigers against Dhaka Dominators. Nasir Hossain dismissed him. The starting batter will only appear in two more league games.
Sharjeel was looking forward to returning to Pakistan’s white-ball squad after a five-year absence. However, interim chief selector Shahid Khan Afridi said that they did not receive approval from higher-ups for his appointment.
“Sharjeel Khan was included in the probable players list due to his domestic performance but was not retained in the final squad as I did not get green signal from PCB chairman on his inclusion in the team,” Afridi said in a press conference following the announcement of the ODI squad against New Zealand.
Pakistan will host three One-Day Internationals (ODIs) against New Zealand in Karachi on January 9, 11, and 13.
