Karachi Police Chief has expressed helplessness in controlling the rising street crimes in the city.

In a conversation with BOL News, Additional Inspector General (AIG) Karachi Javed Alam Odho admitted that rising street crimes in Karachi are a huge problem that the police are unable to control

He said the police investigation is weak and benefits the accused who evades punishment in the court. He said the investigation department has always been the weakness of the police and efforts are being made to improve investigation for swift prosecution.

He said street crime is a major problem in Karachi that the police have failed to control. He said the police is facing difficulties in curbing the rising street crime.

He said incidents of mobile phone snatching are a huge concern. Last year, more than 25,000 mobile phones were looted from citizens, he added.

AIG Karachi said that the loss of life of citizens during street crime has become a serious matter. More than 100 civilians were killed during incidents of street crime in the past year. He said police apprehended more than 8,000 street criminals last year.

He further said that street crime is rising due to the economic conditions of the country. Around two lakh workers have become unemployed in Karachi alone, he added.
