Sharjeel Khan departed for Bangladesh to participate in BPL

  • Sharjeel Khan played his last 50-over game for Pakistan in January 2017.
  • Was banned from all forms of cricket for five years after spot-fixing scandal.
  • Sharjeel Khan was not  included in Pakistan’s ODI.

Sharjeel Khan was not  included in Pakistan’s ODI team due to lack of approval from Najam Sethi, head of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) management committee.

After five years, Pakistan’s opening batter Sharjeel was anticipating his comeback to the white-ball team. Shahid Khan Afridi, the interim head selector, claimed that they did not have approval from higher ups for his appointment.

Afridi said in a press conference after naming the selection in Karachi today, “Sharjeel Khan was included in the likely players list viewing his success in domestic but was not kept in final squad as I did not obtain green signal from PCB chairman on his inclusion in the team.

Sharjeel left for Bangladesh to play in the Bangladesh Premier League after failing to make the final roster (BPL). He will play three matches for the Khulna Titans.

“On my way to Bangladesh to fulfil my three-match contract with Khulna Titans and will be departing for Dubai after that to put in some more work with my fitness trainer,” Sharjeel tweeted.

Sharjeel was implicated in the PSL spot-fixing controversy in 2017 and was barred from playing any kind of cricket for five years. Half of his sentence was suspended, allowing him to return to court in 2019.

He went on to play in the PSL and domestic tournaments, as well as tour with the Pakistan team to Zimbabwe, South Africa, and the West Indies to play T20Is.

In January 2017, he played his last 50-over game for Pakistan against Australia.
