Throwback: Humayun Saeed’s kiss in “The Crown” Vulgar or bold? see mixed reactions

  • Humayun Saeed has worldwide debut in Netflix’s The Crown.
  • Celebrities and fans have been congratulating the Meray Paas Tum Ho actor on his acting abilities.
  • Many have emphasised society’s hypocrisy over Saeed’s “steamy scenes”.

Humayun Saeed has become the talk of the town since making his worldwide debut in Netflix’s The Crown as Diana’s love interest Dr Hasnat Khan. Celebrities and fans have been congratulating the Meray Paas Tum Ho actor on his acting abilities on social media.

Celebrities like as Momina Mustehsan, Adnan Siddiqui, and Mira Sethi have joined the chorus of praise for his  “natural” flair.
Mushtehsan commended Saeed’s “wonderful portrayal” of the relationship while Siddiqui emphasised how the “entire Pakistan is bathing” in Saeed’s “glory”.

In contrast to the plaudits, many have emphasised society’s hypocrisy because, for once, “people are not losing their minds” over Saeed’s (a Pakistani actor) “steamy scenes” with Elizabeth Debicki, who represents Princess Diana in the programme, but would go insane if a local female actor consented to do the same.

“My only observation of Saeed in The Crown is that whenever Pakistani actresses have kissed onscreen, they’ve been crucified for it but when a Pakistani man does it, there are absolute crickets. The hypocrisy of our people is nauseating.”

Another Twitter user cited Mahira Khan as an example. “Khan got more hate for her ‘bad’ Punjabi in The Legend of Maula Jatt than Humayun Saeed is receiving for kissing a woman on-screen in that western show,” they said.

A fan, on the other hand, begged that people not be “so startled” by the “intimate scene.” They underlined how things have “changed in Pakistan,” and that it’s merely a “acting job”. “Why are we so astonished by Saeed’s personal scene? So much has changed in Pakistan. At the very least, it’s an acting role in front of the cast and crew. “People are doing all kinds of things behind closed doors,” the user inquired.

Nevertheless, many have been nothing but appreciative of how Saeed has come a long way. Taking to Twitter, Mustehsan expressed her delight at Saeed’s role. The Afreen Afreen singer revealed how his acting was “truly a treat to watch,” and how proud she is of him. She wrote, “Take a bow, Saeed. What a sensitive and beautiful portrayal of the character and relationship. It was truly a treat to watch. Keep shining and making us all proud!”

On November 9, Siddiqui uploaded a photo of Saeed in a formal suit at The Crown premiere. He paid tribute to his co-star in the Tweet’s message, calling him a good ally. The Ye Dil Mera acto further stated that “the entire Pakistan is revelling” in Saeed’s victory.

“My on-screen bête noir but one of my closest allies is shining like a bright star and how! Entire Pakistan is basking in your glory. The Crown is all yours!” He penned.
