FIA arrests five suspects involved in hawala, hundi

  • Suspects were arrested on directive of Afzal Khan Niazi
  • Mobile phones of suspects sent for forensic analysis

KARACHI: The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) on Tuesday arrested five suspects allegedly involved in hawala and hundi, Bol News reported.

The suspects were arrested on directive of Deputy Director Commercial Banking Circle (Peshawar) Afzal Khan Niazi in two separate raids. Rs23.5 million and receipts regarding hundi were recovered from their possession. They were involved in hawal, hundi and smuggling of currency.

The FIA spokesperson said mobile phones of the suspects had been taken into custody and sent for forensic analysis. Suspects Abdul Ghani, Abbas and Abdul Samad were arrested from Peshawar.  Rohaid Habib and Shehzad Khan were also included in the suspects.

The spokesperson said a case under Foreign Exchange Regulation Act had been lodged against the suspects.

On December 10, Deputy Director of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) had been killed in a firing incident in Lakki Marwat .

Deputy Director of FIA Inam Ullah Marwat had died due to the firing incident in the Tajazai area Lakki Marwat. He was on leave at home when the incident occurred.

In this regard, police officials had said it seemed that Inamullah Marwat was killed over personal enmity.

The police had said that the Deputy Director FIA was fired at in Taja Zai limits of Ghazni police station. The police had lodged an FIR against Sharifullah and Ali Bahadur.

According to the FIR, the deceased Inamullah Marwat had no old enmity with anyone, but a day ago there was a shooting between the accused and the cousins ​​of the deceased and this led to the killing of Inamullah.
