Imran Khan asks residents of Islamabad to participate in LB polls

  • “The masses will defeat the corrupt gang,” Imran Khan said.
  • IHC has directed to hold polls on December 31.
  • “The mafia is left with no choice.”

LAHORE: Pakistan Tehreek e Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan on Friday asked residents of Islamabad to fully participate in the local bodies elections going to be held on Saturday (tomorrow).

“I am hopeful that, In sha Allah, the masses will defeat the corrupt gang,” Imran Khan said in a video message, while congratulating the people on the Islamabad High Court (IHC) verdict about the local bodies election in the federal capital territory. Rejecting the decision of the Election Commission of Pakistan, the IHC has directed the federal government to hold elections in the city on December 31.

The PTI chief said the residents of Islamabad would be able to choose their local government through votes, under the court verdict.

He said it was a misfortune of the country that the ECP was also involved with the corrupt gang imposed on the country. “The ECP always gives verdict against democracy by supporting the thieves,” he alleged.

The former prime minister said the corrupt gang was scared of people as it always ran away from elections. He said the thieves only tried to keep their hold on the country. They establish markets of consciousness with the corruption money and horse trading to continue their hold on the country.

“The mafia is left with no choice as people have badly rejected them,” he said.

The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has instructed the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to hold local government elections in the federal capital on December 31.

A single-member bench headed by Justice Arbab Muhammad Tahir accepted the petitions of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) against the ECP’s decision to postpone the local government elections.

The court nullified the ECP’s decision and ordered to conduct the municipal elections in Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) as scheduled on Dec 31.

The election commission had delayed the polls after the federal government increased the number of union councils (UCs) in the capital. The court expressed displeasure over the federal government’s attitude and voiced its reservations over the waste of money if the polls were not held on time.
