Pak vs NZ: ‘Sarfaraz proved his selection right,’ says Afridi

  • Shahid Afridi praises Sarfaraz Ahmed for his performance against New Zealand.
  • Sarfaraz Ahmed scored 86 runs in his first Test since 2019 against the Kiwis.
  • The wicketkeeper-batsman and Babar Azam had a 196-run partnership.

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) interim chief selector Shahid Afridi praised Sarfaraz Ahmed on Monday for how he played against New Zealand in the Green Shirts’ first game of the two-match Test series at Karachi’s National Stadium. The series is made up of two games.

“Sarfaraz proved his selection right, excellent performance for him under pressure,” the former captain of Pakistan tweeted.

Last week, Afridi was named the head of the interim selection committee. He is a member of the PCB’s newly formed management committee.

The former all-around player didn’t have to take a permanent position on the board. The members will be Abdul Razzaq and Rao Iftikhar Anjum. The meeting will be led by Haroon Rashid, who is also a member of the PCB management committee.

Sarfaraz Ahmed scored 86 runs in his first Test since 2019, when wicketkeeper Mohammad Rizwan was taken out of the team.

The wicketkeeper-batsman and Babar had a great 196-run partnership before Patel got rid of him when he edged a ball to Mitchell at first slip, just before the end of the game.
