- Najam Sethi says board will follow government’s advice on tour of India.
- No gag on former PCB chairman Ramiz Raja’s commentary assignments, says Sethi.
- Micky Arthur is being considered for a coaching assignment by the board.
Najam Sethi, the chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Management Committee, announced on Monday that the board would heed the government’s guidance about the ICC T20 World Cup tour of India.
Speaking to the media in the port city, Sethi claimed that the cricket disputes between Pakistan and India were never decided by the cricket board but rather by the government.
“We will obey whatever the government would suggest to us and we will seek the government’s advice when the time arrives, similar to the last time I was the chairman,” he said.
“As far as Asia Cup is concerned, I will go to ACC (Asian Cricket Council) and see what the situation is; we’ll take a decision which is in the better interest of the game;
“We have to see what other board’s position is, we have to play cricket with everyone, we will not take any step which can cause any isolation,” said the chairman PCB management committee.
Regarding commentary duties for former PCB chairman Ramiz Raja, Sethi responded to a question by saying there wouldn’t be a gag order.
“I’ve always respected him, I understand his position, but we will always welcome if he wants to do commentary assignments in the future,” he said.
He added that Micky Arthur had been approached by the PCB about a coaching position, but that nothing was yet finalised.
In 8 to 10 days, he stated, they would decide on the coach.
“We have contacted Micky Arthur, and he is currently busy with Derbyshire. We have sought his consultation on whether he is available or not and if he has some names to suggest to us,” Sethi said.
Sethi stated that while the Women League is an excellent idea, it has not yet been put into action. He also stated that he will work hard to develop women’s cricket.
However, he was unimpressed with the Pakistan Junior League (PJL) and stated that he will shortly reconsider the proposal after hearing all the criticism about the competition.
The top PCB official continued, saying that he and his staff would complete the 2014 constitution’s implementation in 4 months.
The data provided by the former PCB administration detailing his expenses as chairman during the previous term were “misleading,” he continued.
