Springbok captain Siya Kolisi supports ICC Women’s T20 World Cup

Siya Kolisi, the captain of the South Africa’s Springbok team that won the World Cup, has pledged his support for the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup, which will take place from February 10–26, 2023. Kolisi has challenged the world to crank it up for the historic spectacle with 50 days till the 10 greatest teams in the world play for the top reward in T20 cricket.

Tickets for the opening game of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup between South Africa and Sri Lanka are available online and will be sold at the Newlands Cricket Ground in Cape Town on Friday, February 10.

Siya Kolisi, a World Cup victor in rugby, said: “Nothing compares to hosting the World Cup in South Africa. As they did in Australia for the previous Women’s T20 World Cup, I am confident that the entire country will support our Proteas women. I’m looking forward to watching them perform and sending them my best wishes. They need to go out there, give it their all, and crank it up like they always do. I hope they understand that we will all be there and there is nothing to be afraid of.” Five games will be held in Kolisi’s hometown of Gqeberha during the competition, including a thrilling doubleheader on February 18 at St. George’s Park featuring England versus India and South Africa versus Australia.

Fans may meet their favourite Proteas men’s and women’s players at Canal Walk in Cape Town on Thursday to commemorate the milestone of 50 days till the tournament, where they will also have the chance to purchase tickets and get up close to the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup trophy. Fans are urged to turn it up to be a part of history as South Africa is hosting the Women’s T20 World Cup for the first time. The Women’s T20 World Cup will have a lasting impact on how women’s sports are played on the continent going forward.

As we get ready to host the 10 finest teams in the world for 15 days of nonstop action and entertainment, anticipation is growing across the nation. Before tickets run out, fans should not lose their chance to participate in history.” The first ICC U19 Women’s T20 World Cup will take place in Potchefstroom and Benoni in January, ushering in South African cricket’s “Year of Women.” From January 14 to January 29, 2023, the world’s attention will be on the African continent, and the future stars of the game will compete for the first time on the largest stage.
