Militants attack CTD office in Bannu, hostages taken

BANNU: Armed militants attacked the installation of Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) in Bannu and took policemen hostages, Bol News reported.

The militants stormed the gate of Bannu Cantonment and entered the CTD compound. They also released most- wanted terrorists being kept in custody after taking control of the installation.

It has been reported that militants have seized control of a section of the compound and taken CTD security personnel hostage.

Local residents have been asked to stay indoors while law enforcement agencies have been called in to take control of the situation.

Sources revealed that at least three people have wounded in the incident.  An explosion and heavy gunfire have been heard from the compound. According to reports, the hostage takers are demanding air travel to Afghanistan.

The incident comes after at least four police personnel were martyred and as many others were wounded in an overnight terrorist attack on the Bargai police station in Lakki Marwat.

The terrorists attacked the police station with hand grenades and rocket launchers at midnight from both sides. A fierce exchange of fire took place that left four policemen dead and as many injured.  The attackers managed to escape after the assault. Police have launched a search operation in the area.

The martyred policemen included head constable Ibrahim, Imran, Sabz Ali, and elite force constable Khair-ur-Rehman while the injured policemen included Pas-e-Gul Sahib, constable Balqiyaz, constable Ameer Nawaz, and constable Farmanullah.
