  • France will face Argentina in championship match.
  • Sol Campbell believes France deserved to go to final.

Former England player Sol Campbell believes France deserved to go to their second straight FIFA World Cup final after defeating Morocco 2-0 on Wednesday at Al Bayt Stadium.

Theo Hernandez’s goal in the fifth minute and Randal Kolo Muani’s close-range shot in the 79th minute completed the reigning champions’ 2-0 semifinal victory and set up a championship match against Argentina under Lionel Messi on December 18 at the Lusail Stadium.

Didier Deschamps’ France team overcame multiple injuries to major players prior to the competition, including the Ballon d’Or winner Karim Benzema, to advance to the FIFA World Cup 2022 championship game.

They now have the chance to follow in the footsteps of Italy (1934, 1938) and Brazil (1958, 1962) and become just the third country to win consecutive FIFA World Cups.

“France deserves praise. two consecutive finals. Quite a few people haven’t. Outstanding performance. They were sufficient that day. They were of higher quality. They were in the appropriate places at the appropriate times. They appeared to be a higher-caliber team than Morocco and deserved it “Campbell stated during the VISA Match Centre programme on Sports18.

Gilberto Silva, a member of Brazil’s 2002 FIFA World Cup-winning team, discussed why Morocco, the first African and Arab country to go to the semifinal round of the competition, fell to France despite having more possession overall.

“They had to do more effort in order to equalise, but it was unsuccessful. The quality of the French players ultimately won out because they defended very well and did not create many chances.” Morocco still has a third-place playoff game to play against first semi-final losers Croatia on December 17. Morocco enjoyed a great run in the tournament by defeating tougher teams like Belgium, Spain, and Portugal.
