- ECP will announce the reserved verdict
- The petition seeking Faryal Talpur’s disqualification
- PTI MNAs had submitted the application
KARACHI: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) will announce its verdict on the plea seeking disqualification of Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) MPA Faryal Talpur tomorrow (Wednesday).
The election commission will announce the reserved verdict at 12:30 PM on Wednesday, December 14 (tomorrow). The electoral watchdog has issued notices to respondents from both sides.
During the last hearing, the counsels of the sides appeared before the ECP. The petitioner’s counsel said Faryal Talpur didn’t declare her assets before the commission and concealed facts.
Talpur’s lawyer argued that it was not a case of non-declaration and all assets have been declared. The ECP panel asked him to submit the record and reserved the verdict on the case.
The application seeking the disqualification of Ms Talpur was filed by PTI MNAs Arsalan Taj and Rabia Azhar allegedly for not disclosing her personal assets.
The petition stated the PPP leader should be disqualified under Article 62 of the Constitution for failing to declare details of her assets before the ECP.
It added that Faryal Talpur owned properties in Larkana and Shahdadkot. It added that Talpur had been nominated in the multi-billion fake bank accounts corruption case.
In October, Faryal Talpur, the sister of former president Asif Ali Zardari, submitted her reply to the petition seeking her disqualification. Faryal Talpur submitted her response to the ECP through her lawyer after the court granted her last chance to respond.
In her reply, Talpur said the Sindh Assembly Speaker has already turned down the disqualification plea. She said the applicant is unaware of the law and the ECP is not the relevant forum to hear the petition. She said the petition should rather be filed in the election tribunal.
