- SHC dismissed appeals against the acquittal of MQM workers
- ATC had acquitted 26 MQM workers in the case last year
- Rangers raided Nine-Zero headquarters and recovered heavy weapons
KARACHI: The Sindh High Court (SHC) dismissed appeals against the acquittal of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) workers in a case related to the recovery of explosives and weapons in a raid at the party’s headquarters.
The state had moved the court against an anti-terrorism court’s verdict acquitting Faisal alias Mota, Ubaid alias K2, Farhan Mullah, and others in the case last year. The high court also rejected petitions filed by Rangers seeking an increase in jail terms for 13 other suspects in the case.
In the written agreement, the court said heavy weapons ranging from sub-machine guns to G3 rifles, light-machine guns were recovered from the party headquarters. However, the court said it is beyond comprehension that a bomb was recovered from the party activists.
The high court said the public prosecutor could not find any fault in the decision of the Anti-Terrorism Court. The rejects rejected the appeal of the Sindh government.
On March 12, 2015, Rangers raided the party’s Nine Zero headquarters and recovered a heavy a huge cache of heavy weapons and explosives. The law-enforcement agency had also arrested several MQM activists.
In 2021, the ATC acquitted 52 MQM workers after six years. The court had sentenced Faisal Mota to prison for 10 years, and Farhan Shabbir for eight years among 12 others for possessing illegal weapons and imposed fines.
Rangers had arrested many suspected target killers and criminals including Ubaid K2, Faisal Mota, Nadir Shah, Nauman, Farhan Shabbir, Amir during the raid on March 11, 2015.
A huge cache of arms and ammunition was recovered. The party workers were booked under the Sindh Arms Act, 2013 and Explosives Substances Act, 1908. Rangers had challenged the ATC’s verdict against the acquittal of MQM workers.
