AJK president, OIC secretary general discuss Kashmir issue

MUZAFFARABAD: Azad Jammu and Kashmir President Barrister Sultan Mehmood Chaudhry and Prime Minister Sardar Tanveer Ilyas on Sunday received Organization of Islamic Cooperation Secretary General Hissein Brahim Taha.

They had fruitful discussions on the Kashmir issue, the Foreign Office Spokesperson said in a press release.

The OIC secretary general expressed his deep sentiments for the people of Kashmir after witnessing the grave atrocities and human rights violations committed by the Indian forces in the Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK).

He pledged OIC’s full support to the Kashmir cause.

The meeting was followed by a luncheon hosted by the AJK president in the honour of OIC and his delegation.

Earlier, OIC Secretary-General Hissein Brahim Taha visited AJK during his visit to Pakistan.

The OIC secretary-general laid a wreath at the J & K Monument, built in memory of Kashmiri martyrs and their struggle. He paid his respects and offered Fateha for the martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the cause.

The secretary-general also visited the Line of Control (LOC) Chakothi sector and met with families of Kashmiri victims of cross-border firing.

Taking place at the invitation of Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, this is his first country visit since assuming office in November 2021.

During his visit, the OIC chief said Kashmir was on the top priority of the OIC’s agenda and he will submit a comprehensive assessment report on the human rights situation in Kashmir to member countries.

He was addressing a press conference after meeting the AJK president and prime minister and a brief visit to the Line of Control (LOC) and refugee camps.
