During France’s play against Poland in the round of 16 of the World Cup on Sunday, Olivier Giroud broke a record and became France’s all-time best scorer, putting him in indisputable first place.
During the match, which France ultimately won 3-1, Kylian Mbappe scored a fantastic double for France. Giroud scored his 52nd goal for Les Bleus after Mbappe played a pinpoint ball through to him. Giroud then hammered the ball past a diving Wojciech Szczesny to claim the goal as his own.

Giroud scored his 52nd goal for France just before halftime, allowing Les Bleus to take a lead they would not relinquish until after the break. Prior to that, France’s relentless attacking failed to break through Poland’s resolute defense.
Giroud came dangerously close to giving the champions France a goal just after the break for halftime when he glanced a cross from Jules Kounde just a few inches wide of the near post. After the interval, France’s offensive efforts resumed.

Mbappe, on the other hand, did not miss the mark when he attempted to score a goal in the 74th minute by firing a missile into the top corner of the goal net from just inside the penalty area.
