It is possible to own the balls used by players from elite clubs like Real Madrid, Barcelona, and Atletico Madrid to score goals during La Liga games if you are a fan of Spanish football.
Thanks to a ground-breaking partnership with Gol-Ball, La Liga is about to make history by becoming the first league in the world to offer fans access to official goal-scoring balls.
When La Liga returns on January 8, 2023, following the conclusion of the current World Cup, the deal will go into effect.
In order to cut down on downtime, the field is strewn with more than a dozen balls during professional football games. When a goal is scored, the ball is instantly returned to the field’s centre, where it becomes mixed up with all the other balls scattered over the field while play continues. When a ball is thrown out, another one is immediately placed in to restart the game.
The Spanish league’s organisers said in a release that Gol-Ball has disrupted football collectibles by creating a regulated patent-pending process to identify the balls that are used to score goals, something that no league in the history of professional football had before and even less to deliver it to fans.
Thanks to the Gol-Ball procedure, which popularised the idea of the “goal-scoring ball,” La Liga became the first league to distribute these balls to its fans.
“Throughout my career as a footballer you would normally be given a ball only after scoring a hat-trick, but you were never sure it was the ball you actually scored any of the goals with. If we had been able to identify the goal-scoring ball, my colleagues and I would have wanted all of them. If this is a historic moment for us, then imagine what it could mean for a fan to keep the ball,” La Liga ambassador Samuel Eto’o was quoted in the press release.
Prior to this, only a select few had access to historically significant and authenticated football memorabilia. La Liga is enabling the most valuable component of the game—the ball used to score goals—to be in the hands of fans by making the whole official collection of real Gol-Balls available at extremely reasonable costs through fan engagement methods that will be revealed on January 8th.
“We replaced the auction and bidding of a few with the collaboration of many. We are proud that all our fans can have access to these collectibles, both in their physical and digital form. This is what Web3 inspires: If we contribute a little between many, we can achieve much more than when one single person puts it all,” says CEO of Gol-Ball Andres Rodriguez.
Fede Giuliani, the CTO of Gol-Ball and a veteran of four unicorns, says: “In order to give fans all around the world access to this unique collectible, we invented and registered the goal ball concept through a number of patent applications. We refer to it as gol-ball.” “The goal-scoring ball is a brand-new, priceless object that has been created by Gol-Ball and is supported by an official collection of goal-scoring balls on Web3. It serves as a link between the physical and virtual worlds. La Liga takes pride in being innovative and providing means for our fans to feel more emotionally linked to their favourite teams and idols “Oscar Mayo, La Liga’s executive general director, sums up.
