PML-N unlikely to file no-confidence motion against CM Punjab: sources

LAHORE: The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) is unlikely to bring a vote of no-confidence against Chief Minister Punjab, sources revealed to BOL News.

Well-informed sources within the PML-N revealed that if the no-confidence motion is brought, it will be difficult to for the allied parties to fulfill the requisite 186 members required for the motion.

In this regard, sources revealed the PML-N had convened a meeting to discuss tabling a vote of no confidence against the chief minister. It was earlier stated that bringing the motion will prevent the chief minister from immediately dissolving the provincial assembly.

The PML-N has called a meeting of the parliamentary party chaired by Leader of Opposition in Punjab Assembly Hamza Shehbaz. The meeting will be held at the party’s Model Town head office on Monday (tomorrow) at 3PM.

PML-N sources revealed the party is considering not immediately bringing no-confidence motion. The meeting will mull the legal aspects before a final decision is made. This PML-N is also considering a review of the chief minister’s election in the Supreme Court.

It was earlier reported that the PML-N and allied parties are considering filing a motion of no confidence in the assembly. The party is also considering asking Governor Punjab Baligh-ur-Rehman to ask the chief minister to get a vote of confidence from the assembly.

In case the vote of no confidence is passed, the opposition alliance would have to secure 186 votes against the chief minister to oust him from power. However, the chief minister would have to secure the voters if the governor asks to seek a vote of confidence from the assembly.

Currently, the PTI and PML-Q have a total of 190 seats. This includes 180 seats of the PTI and 10 by PML-Q lawmakers. The PML-N will also consult allied parties on passing the vote of no-confidence.

PTI Chief Imran Khan announced that his party will quit all legislative assemblies in a bid to force the government to hold early elections.

Addressing the public rally in Rawalpindi, Imran Khan said they will not be part of the current political system. He announced that provincial assemblies in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa will be dissolved after consulting the chief ministers of both provinces.
