Energy Minister demands fresh gas allocation policy for province 

  • Sindh Energy Minister Imtiaz Sheikh has written a letter to Federal Minister of State Petroleum Dr. Musadik Malik to resolve the shortage of electricity and gas in province.
  • He explained that Sindh contributes the major share of 60.30 percent of gas production in the country.
  • He further demanded to reconstitute the boards of Federal Energy Regulatory Bodies.

 

KARACHI: Sindh Energy Minister Imtiaz Sheikh has written a letter to Federal Minister of State Petroleum Dr. Musadik Malik to resolve the shortage of electricity and gas in Sindh province.

“It has been observed with concern that injustice is being committed with Sindh in the issues of gas and electricity and fulfillment of its demands, despite the fact that the important matters arising out of the constitutional provisions has been taken up from time to time with federal government but not no action has so far been instigated,” stated in letter.

He explained that Sindh contributes the major share of 60.30 percent of gas production in the country, 35.89 percent in oil production, and 20.52 percent of electricity through Thar Coal and Wind/Solar energies.

“There is an acute shortage of gas in Sindh for many years and people are facing severe problems due to this gas shedding and low pressures and industries, especially in Karachi are facing closures due to gas supply stoppage.”

Sindh Energy Minister demanded the federal Minister for State for fresh gas allocation policy for the province in consultation with provincial authorities to meet the actual need of province in the gas sector and resolve other problems of problems as well.

He further demanded to reconstitute the boards of Federal Energy Regulatory Bodies and Entities by including the respective nominations dully recommended by the Sindh government.
