Chinese-Canadian singer Kris Wu received a 13-year sentence for sex offences

  • Kris Wu, a Chinese-Canadian pop artist, was found guilty of sex offences and sentenced to 13 years in prison.

  • The 32-year-old musician and actor was found guilty by a Beijing court of raping three women and gathering a throng for an orgy.

  • After a student accused him of raping a date the previous year, he was taken into custody before 24 additional victims came forward.

The court ruled that he will be deported, despite the fact that in China, deportations often happen after sentences have been served.

Wu was sentenced to 11 years and 6 months in prison on Friday by the Chaoyang District Court in Beijing for raping three women at his home in 2020 “while they were drunk and did not know or not able to resist.”

The court noted that he was also given a one year, ten month term for “gathering persons to commit adultery.”

Student Du Meizhu was the first to accuse him; she stated on social media last year that she had met Mr. Wu when she was 17 years old.

She said that after being invited to a party at his house, she was coerced into drinking alcohol and awoke the next morning in his bed.

Mr. Wu rejected the allegations, but at least 24 additional victims have come forward to accuse him of being predatory. He was charged with inviting ladies to karaoke gatherings where alcohol was consumed.

The singer might possibly be fined 600 million yuan (£69 million) for tax evasion. He allegedly utilised a fictional company to make misleading claims about his global income, according to the state news agency Xinhua.

Mr. Wu, a Canadian citizen who was born in China, rose to stardom in the 2010s as a member of the K-pop boyband EXO.

After building a successful solo career as a singer, actor, model, and variety show judge, he became one of China’s top celebrities.

However, because of the situation, businesses like Porsche, L’Oreal Men, Bulgari, Louis Vuitton, and Bulgari have suspended their relationships with Mr. Wu.
