KARACHI: Saudi Arabia’s 2-1 triumph over Argentina on Tuesday, one of the biggest upsets in World Cup history, brought joy to the entire nation of Pakistan.

Shehbaz Sharif, the prime minister, congratulated Saudi Arabia’s football team on their historic triumph through Twitter.

“What a football game that was! By pulling off the biggest upset in the nail-biting FIFA World Cup match against Argentina, Saudi Arabia made history tonight, he said.

He sent Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Salman his heartiest congratulations and said Pakistan shares the joy of its Saudi brothers and sisters over this outstanding victory.
“Without a doubt, a great performance”
In the meantime, Riyadh was congratulated on its victory by the National Assembly of Pakistan, which also posted two images of Saudi players.

“Undoubtedly a stellar performance,” the NA stated.

Argentina is shocked by Saudi Arabia

Prior to that, unheralded Saudi Arabia pulled off one of the biggest upsets in World Cup history on Tuesday by defeating Lionel Messi’s Argentina 2-1 with the help of an electrifying comeback in the second half.

The 35-year-old Messi converted a penalty in the 10th minute of his sixth and last attempt to win the one major title that has eluded him during a dominant first half in which he and Lautaro Martinez also had three goals disallowed for offside.

However, at the start of the second half, Saudi Arabia, the tournament’s second-lowest-ranked squad after Ghana, threw caution to the wind and charged at Argentina’s defence in front of an enthused 88,012 spectators.

Following the unexpected victory, Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman bowed in gratitude to Almighty Allah.
