Elizabeth Debicki, however, has received acclaim from Princess Diana’s biographer for her depiction as the late mother of Prince Harry and Meghan.
The Crown, a popular Netflix series, has drawn criticism for its contentious representations of various members of the royal family.
Author Andrew Morton, who penned Diana: Her True Story, which was published in 1992, praised her performance.
“I’m not exaggerating, I was shaken by how close to the real Diana she is,” Morton said while talking to E! News. “The mannerisms, the gestures, the intonation, everything. She got it spot-on. It was like being back in the room with her. When I first saw it, I was blown away.”
Morton, who was intimately familiar with Diana, reportedly collaborated and participated in the writing of the book with Diana, utilising their mutual friend James Colthurst as a go-between.
Colthurst received queries from the author and forwarded them to Diana. She provided Morton with an audio clip of her responses.
