PM Shehbaz departs London after private visit

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif has completed his private visit to London and left to return back to Pakistan, BOL News reported.

The prime minister will consult with the allied parties upon return, sources revealed. On the directives of Nawaz Shari, a meeting of coalition parties will be called where they will be consulted on political and other matters.

PM Shehbaz Sharif left for London for a two-day personal visit after concluding an official tour of Egypt to attend the Climate Change Implementation Summit.

During the visit, the prime minister held detailed discussions on various issues with his brother and PML-N supremo Nawaz Sharif. They are reports that they discussed the appointment of the new army chief after the retirement of Chief of Army Staff General Qamar Javed Bajwa later this month.

Defence Minister Khawaja Asif confirmed on consultations were held on the appointment of the Chief of Army Staff in the meeting between Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Nawaz Sharif.

Reacting to reports over the upcoming appointment, Khawaja Asif said speculations were being made that the decision of the COAS appointment was taken in the Nawaz-Shehbaz meeting in London.

He confirmed that consultations were held on the army chief’s appointment, but maintained that the decision was not taken. He said that the final decision for the appointment will be taken after consultation under the Constitution.

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan said that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will decide on appointing the new army chief after consulting with fugitive Nawaz Sharif. He said the PML-N suprmo will never appoint the army chief on merit but one who would help him return back.

Addressing long march participants in Gujrat through video link, he said that the next army chief should be appointed on merit but Nawaz Sharif will never let this happen as he wants to control institutions to protect his corruption.

He said Shehbaz Sharif will now take decisions after meeting an absconder in London.

“The one (Nawaz) who looted country for the 30 years will make decisions about army chief’s appointment, election date and caretaker setup,” he said. “No one can even imagine that this can happen in a civilised society because rule of law prevails there.”

The PTI chief said society was now witnessing anarchy since influential people get away with the law.
