One of the franchise owners confirmed that Sarfaraz Ahmed was prepared to hand over the Quetta Gladiators’ captaincy to Babar Azam.
There have been media rumours about Babar joining the Gladiators as captain for the eighth Pakistan Super League (PSL) season. After hearing rumours about this situation, one of the franchise owners confirmed that Sarfaraz was prepared to step down as captain but they were unable to come to a deal with Babar.
“Sarfaraz was ready to leave captaincy in case of Babar’s inclusion in our team. But, we couldn’t reach an agreement,” said the owner.
“Yes, he is going to Peshawar Zalmi as far as I know. I wish him the best of luck,” He responded to information of Babar’s trade from the Peshawar Zalmi to the Karachi Kings.
Babar competed for Islamabad United in the first PSL season. Babar changed teams before the PSL 2017 player draught, going to Kings. He has since played for the Kings in six PSL seasons, and this year he captained the team.
Sources claim that Kings and Zalmi exchanged Babar for retired cricketer Shoaib Malik.
Both clubs have yet to make an official declaration. PSL is also anticipated to reveal all six franchises’ retained players at any moment today (November 11).
