Due to a hamstring injury, star footballer Alphonso Davies will not participate in Bayern Munich’s upcoming two Bundesliga matches, the club announced in a statement on Sunday.

However, Bayern claimed that the injury suffered by the Canada international is not as serious as was initially feared, and that there is no risk that he will be unable to participate in the World Cup.

During Saturday’s match against Hertha Berlin, which Bayern won 3-2, Davies was substituted out shortly after the hour mark.

“FC Bayern will be without Alphonso Davies for the two remaining Bundesliga games prior to the winter break. The 22-year-old full-back suffered a hamstring strain in the 3-2 win at Hertha BSC on Saturday,” the club said.

“The diagnosis was confirmed by the German record champions’ medical unit. The Canada international’s participation in the World Cup in Qatar is not at risk,” it added.

The country of Canada will compete against Belgium, Croatia, and Morocco as part of Group F. At the World Cup, which Canada will be participating in for the first time since 1986, Davies is expected to be one of the country’s most important players.
