Leg-spinner Shadab Khan took the most T20 wickets during Pakistan’s match against Bangladesh at the Adelaide Oval on Sunday, tying former skipper Shahid Afridi’s record.
With a record 97 wickets for his team, the all-rounder tied Afridi for the most wickets in cricket’s shortest format. Shadab set the record after he took two wickets in today’s game, which Pakistan needed to win in order to go to the T20 World Cup 2022 semifinals.
Afridi needed 98 outings whereas Shadab needed just 82 games to reach the feat of 97 wickets. With 85 wickets each, former cricketers Umar Gul and Saeed Ajmal are currently third and fourth on Pakistan’s list of top wicket-takers. Haris Rauf, meanwhile, is in sixth place with 70 kills.
Pakistan defeated Bangladesh by five wickets in the decisive game to advance to the semifinals. With the ball, pacer Shaheen Shah Afridi shone, claiming 4-22 in four overs.
In the first Super 12 game of the day at the Adelaide Oval, the Netherlands eliminated South Africa from the competition, securing a spot for India in the final four. With four points each, Pakistan and Bangladesh needed the Dutch victory to give their bids for a semifinal position more momentum.
