Rishi Sunak announce bank holiday for coronation of King Charles

  • An additional bank holiday has been declared for the coronation of King Charles III.
  • The ceremony will take place in Westminster Abbey on Monday, May 8.
  • It will enable families across the nation to celebrate.

To commemorate King Charles’ coronation, which will take place in Westminster Abbey two days early on Monday, May 8, Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has declared an additional bank holiday on that day.

It will enable families across the nation to unite and celebrate, as they did when a bank holiday was established for the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II in 1953, according to the local media.

The King had privately stated that he was not insisting on a holiday, but according to the Daily Express, the prime minister nonetheless decided to grant the country a day off.
