Vladimir Putin, the President of Russia, said on Friday, he said that Russia has recruited an additional 18,000 soldiers on top of its objective of 300,000 to fight in Ukraine from the general male population.
According to Putin, since the end of September, when he issued a directive to strengthen Moscow’s military, 318,000 men have been mobilized in Russia, and 49,000 of them are already in the combat zone fighting. He attributed their victory to a “influx of volunteers” who came forward to help.
“We already have 318,000. Why 318,000? Because the volunteers are coming. The number of volunteers is not decreasing,” Putin told reporters and volunteers outside of the Kremlin walls.
The news that the mobilization goal of 300,000 recruits has been attained and that the mobilization draught has been finished was given to Putin by the Minister of Defense, Sergei Shoigu, the week before last.
