Maryam, Nawaz condemn assassination bid on Imran Khan

KARACHI: Pakistan Muslim League-N (PML-N) supremo Nawaz Sharif and his daughter and PML-N Vice President Maryam Nawaz in separate statements condemned the assassination attempt on Pakistan Tehreek e Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan in Wazirabad on Thursday, Bol News reported.

“I condemn the firing on Imran Khan and his associates and pray for recovery of the injured,” Nawaz Sharif tweeted from London.

“I condemn the firing on Imran Khan and pray to Allah Almighty for the health of all the injured including him,” Maryam tweeted.

Meanwhile, Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) also condemned the assassination attempt on Imran Khan and prayed for the PTI supporter who died in the incident.

The ISPR also prayed for Imran Khan and other injured’s speedy recovery.

“Firing incident during Long March near Gujranwala is highly condemnable. Sincere prayers for precious life lost and speedy recovery and well being of Chairman PTI Mr Imran Khan and all those injured in this unfortunate incident,” the ISPR said.

At least one person was killed and eight others wounded in the assassination bid on Pakistan Tehreek e Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan on Thursday in Wazirabad, Bol News reported.

During PTI’s long march, the attempt to kill Imran Khan was made. Eight including Imran Khan, Senator Faisal Javed, PTI Central Punjab Senior Vice President Chaudhry Muhammad Ahmed Chattha got wouned. Whereas, the deceased has been identified as Muazzam Shahzad Gondal son of Muhammad Nawaz Gondal, a resident of Ala’abad, Siyal Colony, Wazirabad.

The injured were rushed to the District Headquarters Hospital, Gujranwala, while Imran Khan was shifted to Lahore for treatment.

Pakistan Tehreek e Insaf (PTI) leader Dr Yasmin Rashid on Thursday said PTI chief Imran was doing fine.

Former prime minister Khan got injured when two men reportedly opened fire near the reception camp at Allahwala Chowk, Wazirabad, during PTI’s long march.

In a statement, Yasmin Rashid said Imran sustained two bullet injuries to his leg. She said she had asked him to get bulletproof glass installed on the container.

“Now you have CROSSED THE LINE. You CANNOT DETER US. You cannot. Imran Khan is injured but safe. There are some critical but we will NOT BE DETERRED and we will take you to task! May Allah protect us all,” she tweeted.

PTI leader Faisal Javed, who also got injured in the attack, said their morale was high. He said the PTI chief was alive and kicking. “The movement of freedom will not stop now,” he said.

Remembering the Model Town tragedy, another PTI leader Farrukh Habib blamed Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah for the attack. He said Rana Sanaullah repeatedly threatened Khan of taking his life.

“Today the coward has got attack on Imran, leader of the Muslim Ummah. The government will be responsible, if anything happens to Imran,” he said.
