KARACHI: Novak Djokovic, a tennis player from Serbia, has stated he will wait for approval before competing in the 2018 Australian Open, which will take place from January 16 to 29.

When he was held by immigration in Australia for several hours, Djokovic went through one of the toughest experiences of his life. The Serbian was granted entry into the nation under special circumstances that excused him from COVID-19 immunisation, but his visa was finally cancelled due to worries about the wellbeing of the broader population.

The former world number one has discussed his time in Australia last year in detail.

“For the choices I made, I knew there would be certain consequences like not going to America, and that is it. For Australia, it was a different case, I had the exception, but in the end, it did not work out. We know what happened, let’s not go back.,”Djokovic briefly broached a subject that he typically avoids talking about.

He did, however, note that he is waiting for clearance because the nation has opened its borders to immigrants without vaccinations.

“This time, I am waiting for the permission again. It is a good thing that they have now opened the borders for unvaccinated foreigners travelling to Australia. I have that ban, I hope it will be lifted. As I said, it is not in my hands, I hope the people in the Australian Government will give a positive answer, that is all,” he added.

He has already won the Australian Open nine times, and if he is permitted to enter the nation the following year, he might just succeed in winning it ten times, as he so desperately wants to.

Despite rumours among Australian news outlets that the prohibition would be lifted, no official decision has yet been made.

Additionally, Djokovic lavished admiration on top-ranked Carlos Alcaraz, a young tennis star from Spain.

“Alcaraz is the world’s number one, he is the best. Nothing more to add, the rankings show it. It is a fact that I played less, Wimbledon points did not count, maybe it would have been different in different circumstances, but that is a what if,” he concluded.
