CAA fails to play role for restoration flights to EU

  • The ban on flights caused Rs 150 billion rupees loss to the national airline in two and half year.
  • CAA’s top officials are still unable to lift the ban on PIA in European countries
  • Pakistan Civil Aviation Authority officials will make another attempt to satisfy the European authorities.

KARACHI: Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) has failed to play its role in the restoration of flights of Pakistan International Airline (PIA) to European countries despite the passage of two and half years which caused Rs 150 billion rupees loss to the national airline.

According to the details, Bol News brought out the reasons for the failure of CAA in European countries to lift the ban. CAA’s top officials are still unable to lift the ban on PIA in European countries despite the passage of two and a half years, questioning the role of authority as a regulator.

It has been revealed that the DG Bureaucratic and Administrative Service posted in CAA, the current DGCAA was not among the interviewed and shortlisted candidates.

Sources said that the DG of CAA must be an aviation expert and must have at least 20 years of aviation experience, while the Federal Secretary of Aviation also has no experience in the aviation sector.

CAA sources said that the lack of experience of senior officers at the director level and appointment on deputation is also a major reason. Since July 2020, PIA has been banned from flying to European countries due to the lack of interest of the top CAA officers who earn millions of rupees per month.

Sources said that a five-member delegation of the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA)  will try again today in a meeting to be held in Brussels on the restoration of PIA flights in Europe.

The team of the CAA will try hard to restore the PIA flights to the European Union authorities.

The CAA delegation will inform the Deputy DG Regulatory Heads of the European Commission and the European Safety Agency officials about the progress regarding the Pilot’s License, Oversight, and Registration.

Director License CAA will brief the European authorities in the technical session about suspected pilots and actions taken in this regard.

Sources say that due to the incompetence of CAA officials, despite the passage of two and a half years, the authority is unable to restore PIA flights to European countries.

According to CAA sources, in today’s important meeting, Pakistan Civil Aviation Authority officials will make another attempt to satisfy the European authorities.
