The Telugu version of “Oh My Kadavule” (Tamil) stars Vishwak Sen as Ashok Selvan, Mithila Palkar as Ritika Singh, Venkatesh as Vijay Sethupathi, and Asha Bhat as Vani Bhojan. Kollywood had lost interest in love stories when the Tamil original was released. Romantic fantasy fuels philosophical concerns, difficulties, and Catch-22s.
Arjun married Anu a year ago. They think their marriage is doomed. Divorce petition. When Arjun meets an enigmatic person, the story becomes mysterious (Victory Venkatesh as God). God blesses him in the meanwhile. He can now choose not to marry Anu and see what happens. Will Arjun’s life become miraculous? Will it worsen?
After marriage, Arjun becomes perfunctory. Due to the windy therapy, his emotional letdown isn’t as bad. Even the slow parts are engaging due to the narration’s simplicity. Tharun Bhaskcer’s dialogue is clear, and the minor but serious modifications don’t look sloppy.
The film doesn’t sugarcoat childhood love. The narration is faithful. The short sequences about latrine quality checks (Arjun’s work) are not a cheapened form of “toilet humour.”
Fantasy isn’t sensationalised. That would have been creatively costly; by playing to its strengths, ‘Ori Devuda’ adheres to its emotional heart and increases the fun.
After all, the ‘F2’ actor is known for comedy hero parts, unlike Sethupathi.
Vishwak is unique. He performed flawlessly. Mithila, more than Asha, keeps us interested without overacting. The lead pair’s childhood friend Venkatesh Kakumanu is fine. Rahul Ramakrishna is miscast, while Murali Sharma is good.
Anirudh Ravichander joyfully sings “Gundellona” with Leon James. Rain song improvisation. Vidhu Ayyanna shoots well.
The remake is worth watching, but it should have used its second chance to tell a more sympathetic and emotionally gratifying story.
