KARACHI: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) workers have called off their protest outside the Election Commission of Pakistan’s (ECP) office in Karachi.
PTI Sindh President Ali Zaidi addressed the party activists and announced to end the protests. He delivered a message by PTI chairman Imran Khan. “Just like you gathered to protest peacefully, you should also go home peacefully,” he said.
A rally was held under the leadership of Ali Zaidi from Nursery on Main Shahrah-e-Faisal towards the office of the election commission. A heavy contingent of police and law-enforcement agencies was deployed outside the commission office for security.
Former Governor Sindh Imran Ismail was also present. Addressing the protestors earlier, Ali Zaidi said they will hold an online meeting with Imran Khan and announce their decision. “Imran Ismail is our governor even today. We don’t accept anyone else as Governor Sindh,” he said.
He said the ECP cannot disqualify Imran Khan. “I want to ask the judiciary that if someone is on bail, can he can also become a judge?” he asked. ‘We were ministers but we used to provide tea biscuits to our guests with our own money.”
He said the current ministers are having lavish lifestyles at state expenditure. He said the current government cannot compete with Imran Khan.
He asked the PTI workers gathered there to disperse peacefully. He said Imran Khan will issue a statement and give the next court of action.
Meanwhile, the ECP has demanded fool-proof security from the federal government. The election commission has written a letter to the Interior Ministry and demanded security at central, provincial, and district offices.
The letter said the Chief Secretary and Police should be instructed to increase security. The Interior Ministry has issued directives to the provincial Home Ministry to beef up security in view of the protests.
